pART of Pontypridd Art Trail 2021

7th-9th May

The Story of Ceridwen, 2021

Mixed media puppet theatre

Through the use of puppets and storytelling, the work aims to celebrate the history of Pontypridd in a playful way. The inspiration to tell the folk tale of Ceridwen came from the life of Owen Morgan, who became a national figure in Wales during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Better known by his bardic name, Morien, his druidic beliefs linked the folk tale of Ceridwen to Pontypridd Common, with the focal point being that of the Rockingstone, which Morien believed to be a sacred landscape.

Although the work was created with the intention of incorporating live performances and encouraging hands on interaction for an immersive experience, for now, a video of the puppet show is situated below.

The pART of Pontypridd Art Trail is an annual exhibition by the latest graduates from the BA(Hons) Creative and Therapeutic Arts course at the University of South Wales, Treforest Campus, in partnership with local organisations, initiatives, businesses, venues and sites in Pontypridd.

Artwork created for pART of Pontypridd actively encourages participation with the public so it not only creates an opportunity for the graduates to showcases their work, but will also provides an opportunity for those who live and work in the area to get involved in some new and exciting artwork popping up around the town.

Accessibility and inclusivity at the heart of our practice, so the exhibition content can range from street art, outdoor sculpture, textiles, painting and photography, to videos with captions, soundscapes, creative wellbeing packages, guided meditation, recipes and even more!
